As reported in our earlier article about possible hospital stay in Paris and a return home today, our sources can now confirm that Ivorian prime minister Patrick Achi was back on home soil, greeted by General Vagondo, Defense minister Ibrahim Ouattara and Foreign minister Kandia Kamara late Friday night.
According to State Television (RTI), " Prime Minister Patrick Achi returned to Côte d'Ivoire today after a stay in France".
Several notable news outlets had indicated that the Prime Minister was in Paris (France) on medical grounds, without his office neither confirming nor denying the information.
"Patrick Achi admitted to the American Hospital in Paris, Neuilly-sur-Seine due to bowel abnormalities. He had undergone a benign operation days earlier" (Jeune Afrique). French radio (RFI) also confirmed the information, but when contacted, Ivorian authorities remained silent.
Two prime ministers have died while in office during the past few months. Amadou Gon Coulibaly suffered a heart attack in July 2020.
His successor Hamed Bakayoko succumbed to cancer in March 2021.
The Ivory Coast, a beacon of peace and prosperity in the best part of four decades following independence from colonial France in 1960, has been embroiled in political unrest since President Houphouet Boigny died in 1993.
