Orange begins fibre expansion across Cote d’Ivoire
2 Oct 2020
Orange Cote d’Ivoire has launched its first fibre access networks outside of the country’s former capital and largest city, Abidjan. Having covered much of Abidjan with fibre networks, Orange has now turned its attention to other regions, including port city San Pedro. The telco says that almost 100km of fibre has already been installed in San Pedro and this should rise to 200km by end-2021.
Didier Kla, Director of Business and Broadband at Orange CI, said: ‘Since 2017, we have invested more than XOF300 billion [USD537 million] in the renewal and development of new networks … both mobile with 4G and fixed with the fibre. After San Pedro, we will continue our efforts to extend fibre coverage to the entire national territory.’ Orange’s networks in Abidjan currently cover 340,000 households in eight of the city’s ten districts.
