Côte d'Ivoire-IMF mission meets with Minister Adjoumani on financing agricultural projects

An IMF mission exchanged views with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kobénan Kouassi Adjoumani on Thursday, March 09, 2023.

Abidjan, March 09, 2023 - A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is in Côte d'Ivoire to negotiate a new exchange program  o with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kobénan Kouassi Adjoumani on upcoming agricultural projects.

Mr. Adjoumani briefed them on projects financed in the Ivorian agricultural sector and spoke of the prospects in terms of financing to the delegation from Bretton Woods, led by Olaf Unteroberdoerster.

After a half-hour closed-door meeting, Minister Adjoumani praised his hosts for the meeting, which enabled them to review all the programs underway in the various sectors of activity, from food production to Export and the processing .

"We reminded them that Côte d'Ivoire is essentially an agricultural country, its economy is based on agriculture. Therefore, it needs to be supported. We also shared the effects of COVID 19 and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis that have strongly impacted our agriculture," said the Minister of State.

The processing of cash crops including cocoa, cashew nuts and cotton and the creation of water reservoirs to build up reserves that can be used for crop irrigation, were discussed by both parties.

"We leave this meeting satisfied because we see the IMF's willingness to support our economies, but to do so, it needs to learn about the realities that are ours," said Kobénan Kouassi Adjoumani.

The IMF mission has been in Abidjan since Wednesday 1, March 2023.
