CAF Cup qualifying rounds

ASEC wins first leg of Ivorian derby (2-0) to edge Gagnoa

The Ivorian derby between defending champion ASEC Mimosas and league1 runner-up Sporting Club de Gagnoa saw the Yellow and Black victory in 2-0 in Yamoussoukro on november 3rd. The mimosas are one step ahead in the first round of the double confrontation to qualify for the final phase of the Confederation (CAF) Cup, 2022-2023.

Dropped down to the CAF Confederation Cup after their elimination from the African Champions League, the Mimosas had at heart to avoid a blank year on the continent. ASEC's mission is half-accomplished in this first leg.

Julien Chevalier's men surged ahead on a brilliant pass from Aubin Kramo to Zouzoua Pacome, who then calmly beat Gagnoa's keeper 5 minutes before the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Gagnoa pushed back the yellow and Black with several unproductive incursions in the danger zone. ASEC suffered but held the advantage until the 62nd minute when a poor Gagnoa transition benefited Mimosa's Attohoula, who found teammate Serge Pokou for a second goal at the far post.

Act 2 of this double confrontation is on Wednesday, November 09, in Yamoussoukro.
